Never forget. Not forgotten.
This picture captures the essence of what it means to be a firefighter. It shows FDNY Ladder Company 118 responding to what, by this time, was a known terrorist attack. The firefighters were absolutely aware of the likely outcome, yet they continued to charge in knowing that the lives of their brother firefighters and countless civilians depended on them. The six members of the Ladder 118 crew are credited with saving numerous lives while performing rescue operations at the Marriott World Trade Center Hotel.
All six members were killed in the tower collapse.

On this day... 23 years ago 246 people went to sleep in preparation for their morning flights. 2,606 people went to sleep in preparation for work in the morning. 343 firefighters went to sleep in preparation for their morning shift. 60 police officers went to sleep in preparation for morning patrol. 8 paramedics went to sleep in preparation for the morning shift. None of them saw past 10:00am Sept 11, 2001. In one single moment life may never be the same. As you live and enjoy the breaths you take today and tonight before you go to sleep in preparation for your life tomorrow, kiss the ones you love, snuggle a little tighter, and never take one second of your life for granted.

Thank you. Thank you for the reminder. Thank you for the reminder that life is fleeting and can be over in a millisecond. Thank you for how precious and fleeting our lives are. No matter the circumstances, life can change in the blink of an eye. We are all in this together. Let's remember to be respectful of each other.

When does the new Truck 91 get finished up?
Day 2 of recruit academy. Today the recruits took on the “confidence course.” A completely dark, “smoked” out, zero visibility “obstacle course.” Recruits had to navigate confined spaces, entanglements, and fitting through a stud bay of a wall, all while breathing air and not being able to see anything.
This course is intended to build confidence and encourage working through problems all while learning about air management of their SCBA’s.

Congrats Chris! 🎉
Happy retirement Manion!! 😊
It’s been an honor my friend. I’ve had the pleasure to work alongside Chris for the past 4 years. I admire his hard charging yet safe approach on calls, which sometimes results in an injury or two. But what stands out the most, is his drive to stay proficient in his craft up until his very last shift. Enjoy retirement!
Congratulations Chris! You’ve had an amazing career! Your passion for excellence was evident in your work as a firefighter, and shows in the countless probationers and young firefighters you mentored throughout your career. YFD will surely miss you! Now go and enjoy!
