I can't believe how many of the vehicles that were right against the building you guys managed to save! Watching them pull the two stock trailers out with one truck and seeing both were fine this morning was insane. Also, watching the ladder truck was so cool! Thank you guys for keeping all the neighboring homes safe. Looking out our front window at a wall of flames and raining embers was very frightening, but knowing you guys were between us and the fire helped!
Early this morning, all crews in the city responded to a structure fire in the 600 block of West Washington.
The large shop became a defensive fire quickly as it was filled with boats, jet skis, and several vehicles all burning.
Thank you to Yakima County Fire District 4 - East Valleyfor sending your rehab!

As Firefighter Cancer Awareness Month comes to a close, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on the importance of this issue.
According to the IAFF, almost 75% of the names added to the LODD (line of duty death) memorial wall this last year in Colorado Springs, were firefighters who died from occupational cancer. This was 348 firefighters from 2019 to 2020.
YFD has had several members directly affected by cancer as well as a LODD from occupational cancer.
Stay tuned as a local reporter is currently working on a story about cancer in the fire service and our members who have been directly affected.
The IAFF along with the Washington State Council of Firefighters are working diligently on getting presumptive coverage of cancers and developing best practices to reduce the risk of getting cancer to all firefighters.

Thank you for your service R.I.P 🙏
Way to go Jess! Outstanding work by everyone involved! Happy to hear about a great outcome! It's not every day that our team has the opportunity to meet the people they help but today we did!!
On New Year's Eve, Jessica received a call from a citizen who stated her friend was having a medical emergency and wasn't breathing. Jessica jumped into action, providing CPR instructions over the phone for 11 minutes until the patient began breathing again. Paramedics arrived a few minutes later and transported her.
The caller stopped by today to meet Jess and say thank you for saving her friend who is now recovering. She also brought goodies for the rest of our team.
It's wonderful when we get to meet the people we help!
Great job Jess!!
